HOOK UP FISHING REPORTS - FRIDAY 25/11/11
Plenty of snapper around indicating this could be the best season ever! Many anglers are already targeting whiting and other species with good results as well. Freshwater fishing has already been brilliant with Lake Bolac, Hepburn Lagoon and other western district lakes providing excellent trout fishing results. Redfin were full on at Lake Eildon earlier and once the water warms up you can expect brilliant Yellowbelly and Murray Cod fishing (Murray Cod season commences on 1st December but make sure your tackle is upgraded to heavier line class etc. to cope with these beautiful large fish).
PORT PHILLIP -SEAFORD, CARRUM, BLACK ROCK and all along this area snapper are prolific - reports of fish from quite shallow water at Black Rock to 7-8m. off Carrum and Seaford to the wide 15m. mark have all produced excellent catches. Reports of snapper to just under 7kg. have been received with many around the 3-3.5kg. mark. Best baits are Pilchards, Silver Whiting, Squid, Scad and Barracoutta. Best soft plastic is the Squidgy Pillie Flick Baits.
WESTERNPORT - Gummies at Lysaughts, Corinella, Mosquito Channel as well as the Top of the port have been reported. Snapper to 3.9kg. around Joe's Island on the run in tide, as well as east of the main channel off Hastings. Don't forget to burley and best baits are the same as Port Phillip. Great sized whiting in the Middle Spit, around Joe's Island and Hastings. Pippies are the prime bait.
LAKE EILDON - Paul Simons has been targeting Yellowbelly just up the Delatite Arm with huge success using Black Jackalls. At Bonnie Doon redfin up to 800gm. are still going beserk on blade lures.
EILDON PONDAGE - Trout to 5lb. have been taken.
HEPBURN LAGOON - Trout to 3lb. on Powerbait and Scrubworms. Don't forget to take warm gear to this Lagoon as the wind here can be chilling even on a good day.
LAKE BOLAC has been legendary this season with catches of huge trout - trolling with Tassie Devils, Rapalas etc.
Have been very successful, as well as mudeyes fished from the shore.
CLUB NEWS - Keybsorough Angling Club fished Port Phillip for 40 snapper up to 3.69kg. and 2 Flathead with best bags being 3 snapper including junior angler - Cameron Webber. It was a great all round result for Club members.
GOOD LUCK & GREAT FISHING
